Top Ten Headphones in India 2017
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Studio headphone is the upgrade version of popular ATH-M50. It offers an excellent build quality and very detailed, balanced sound with tight bass. If you are considering for buying a new headphone, and don’t mind them being a little large, you’d be remiss not to consider the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x. This headphone is very comfortable and have slightly more cushiony earcups along with a detachable-cord design. ATH-M50x provide very good saturation of everything be it sound effects, instruments or other beats in the song. So you get to listen to each and every thing and distinguish one thing from the other. That is why this headphone is so amazing.
Although ATH-M50x don’t come with active noise cancellation features, it still do a fine job of passively sealing out the sound from the outside world. You many not get the same level of noise reduction as likes of Bose QuietComfort 15, but they’re a good alternative for people who are sensitive to the slight pressure of active noise cancellation.

Sony MDR-XB950BT Extra Bass (XB) Headphones
When you are choosing any audio equipment, products from Sony should always be on your check-out list as they are known to provide products with great sound clarity and undoubted quality. This MDR-XB950BT model Headphones from Sony appeared to be simply amazing when we tried them out at a music store. They have a feature of Bass Boost which starts working as soon as you switch ON the button placed over its left ear piece. You can connect your device with just a touch through NFC functionality. The entire control panel is at your fingertips with which you can receive, cut and call or move the volume up and down, play, pause, go to next, previous or move forward or backward.
With its light weight sleek dimensions, you are free from that heady feeling even if you are using them for a stretch of 4-5 hours in a day. It has a good battery life running about 20 hours once you charge it full. This is much better than headphones from Beats and many other manufacturers. The ear cups may also appear too bulky for many as it touches your cheeks even after you minimize the headband to its lowest limit.
What was not quite satisfactory was when I tried with Rock or Metal as it was too loud for them and also while watching movies, but worked perfect with heavy bass, techno and hip hop tracks. It shuts out the noise of the external world but the noise leakage was all too much when you are in a peaceful atmosphere. Sitting beside, one will get to hear all what is being played, and that defeats the purpose of using a headphone in my opinion.
- Bluetooth NFC for wireless music streaming from smartphone
- Electro Bass Booster for extra heart-thumping bass
- Long 20 hours battery life for non-stop music on the go
- Works even when battery is depleted
- Hands-free calls with built-in microphone
SENNHEISER HD 419 Headphone
The Sennheiser HD 419 headphones looked quite impressive in the first sight. The ear cups are designed to cover the ears completely, shutting out the atmospheric noise and you can simply slip into your own world of music and beats. The ear cups were quite comfortable and didn’t create any trouble even after a long stretch of usage. The treble was consistently good in almost all genres of music, but the bass didn’t seem to be that overwhelming. To be honest, it is ideal for normal music lovers who aren’t that particular about high end bass or pure treble quality. For those features I found the HD 202 II to be far higher in standard. Specifically, it played well on Instrumental, Classical, Fusion and tracks of same kind with less beats.
The sound quality was uncompromising with even a simple Mp3 player. The usage was easier as it comes with quite a long wire and the jack is quite elegantly gold-plated. It was almost feeling like a 3D effect when I was listening to a latest track of fusion.
The built is quite sturdy and durable, so one can pack them in a pouch and forget about it. Its lightweight and so portable that it is one of its best feature, and it is a good purchase to carry them on move, especially in long journeys and while taking regular exercise walks.
- Powerful neodymium magnets for stereo sound with powerful punchy bass
- Closed circumaural headphone design isolate against ambient noise
- Single-sided cable for freedom of movement
- Optimised for portable audio including mp3, cd players, ipad, ipod, iphone and mobile phones
Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone
The name of this product is quite self-explanatory. Yes, it is primarily for professional use and certainly not for the common usage like listening to a portable music player on the move. For the music professionals, it can be safely listed under the must-haves. A recording studio without this pair is a rare combination. What can be the reason otherwise, that it has been in the market for 20 years and is still having thousand sells every month?
That doesn’t mean it isn’t a great pair for casual listening like light music, watching movies and playing games. If you have a good quality sound-card, you would not need a powerful AMP, as its 64 ohm impedance is combined with a decent range of sensitivity for 106 dB/mW. With a fair functionality on noise isolation, sound clarity and high bass, it plays at a much louder volume than other headphones, which is the most required feature for recording in the outdoors being able to listen to the headphone monitoring surpassing the atmospheric sounds.
If you have experienced Shure SRH 440,Beyerdynamic DT 770 or Sennheiser HD 280 Pro and we are talking about sonic transparency, this piece of headphone will leave all of them behind. The ear-cups are comfortable to wear, as it can be adjusted to different head sizes. Its durability and repairable parts are time tested and are being used by people from more than fifteen years. No wonder why people call it as Sonys masterpiece.
Audio Technica ATH-M20X Professional Studio Monitor Over-Ear Headphones
Whenever I go for headphones what comes foremost in my mind is whether it has the feature of preventing noise leaks or not even when played at full volume. With this set of headphones the experience of metal, jazz and trance were equally good and above all, the Noise cancellation ability is not perfect but is good enough for a beginner audio enthusiastic. It plays pretty well in both low and high frequencies, has got a great bass, treble and space echoes. It also performed with equally good output while playing games. The headphones have got a smart look appearing neither too bulky or goofy from the frontal or side views but seems to be quite sturdy and comfortable with nice cushions. The ear-cups are 180 degrees foldable and can absorb sweat. To maintain it dry and odor-free all you have to do is placing it around 20 minutes at a place with good sunlight exposure.
It comes with a10 feet long, non-detachable cord which might not be that admirable for many but for me it was quite useful as it doesnt get stretched when I turn my head away from my system. You need not go for any amplifier with this set. An ideal headphone for those who are looking for a partial savory of M50X. It is also a good option choice for audio professionals who need quality and clarity on each note. After extensive usage of Bose OE2, BO ear set 3i and Beats, this was definitely a better experience for me at this price range.

Sony MDR-XB30EX In-Ear Extra Bass Stereo Headphone
This is very much a Headphone for Bass lovers. Sony keeps contributing in the top row of audio accessories, and this one comes with awesome sound clarity, almost sounds like a power house. Coming to its comfort while wearing, you can even sleep on your side putting the ear pods on. What makes it my favorite is its tangle free wires that have stopped me from the botheration of those clumsy struggles. The jack is unconventionally shaped L, to keep the wired part loosened when you hold your phone in landscape mode watching the screen. Even in portrait mode it’s fine as it makes you be a little more careful and thus enhances its longevity.
The treble might appear to be a bit less, but in my view, it is the super bass, which overshadows it. The built is really good leaving many other headphones behind and that keeps the expectation for its price. What I liked more about it is its high end noise reduction feature, which doesn’t let you know whats going on around you. A comfortable wear even after a long stretch of more than 3 to 5 hours. But there isnt any mic or button which is a real down side of this pair. I am also not much satisfied with the length of the cord Sony has provided with this set. The flat wires appear to be too thin and flimsy. But overall it gives you value for money. It’s that engrossing that it is advisable not to use them while walking or driving.
- Advanced Direct Vibe Structure
- Fitting assist, Vertical in-ear
- Hybrid silicone earbuds, comfortable even over long periods
- Sensitivity: 105dB/mW, Power Handling Capacity- 100mW, Impedance-16 ohm (1KHz), Frequency Response 4-24,000Hz, PET Diaphragm

The Sony MDRXB-450 headphones has very powerful bass that can blast your eardrums. This headphone delivers a 5Hz-22000Hz frequency response and features a 30mm dynamic driver unit that offers high quality, powerful sound with high bass levels. Sony has classed-up the look of the XB range since the models of a couple of years ago, but thanks to their sheer size, the Sony MDR-XB450BV are still pretty eye-catching. The back plate of each ear cup has a metallic finish of concentric circles widely used in Sony’s current headphones. Though not an active noise cancelling headphone, but it cuts down most of the external sound on average volume but not entirely.
- 30mm dynamic driver unit for powerful sound
- Portable, Swivel folding design
- Pressure relieving ear pads for extended comfort
- Tangle free flat serration cord
